Public Library Standards - Public Comment

Process for Adopting New Public Library Standards 

The Public Library Standards Task Force met in March 2021 to discuss public comment received at public comment meetings. The task force made changes to the November 2020 draft based on public comment. Montana State Library staff and Commissioners will be asking for feedback on the latest draft of the standards at the virtual 2021 Montana Library Association conference and spring library federation meetings.

Tentative timeline

April - May 2021: listen to public comment on the proposed changes

May 2021: make any necessary changes to the latest draft

June 2021: present to State Library Commission for a decision on whether to move forward with administrative rules process

June - September 2021: go through administrative rules process, if the Commission approves moving forward

October 2021: Commission decides whether to adopt new standards
